Michael MAI
CEO of MAI Group
Michael was educated in Melbourne from the age of 16 and went on to found MAI Group, ICD Property and MAI Capital. He is personally involved in all matters across the group of companies and has highly respected opinions and expertise in corporate strategy and team building.
Michael has established successful joint venture partnerships with leading institutions in China. He has deep insights in areas of project acquisitions, corporate finance, joint venture structures and Asian strategies.
Since its inception, MAI Group has developed projects and managed assets worth more than AUD $2 billion.
Managing Director
Steve YANG
Steve leads the MAI Capital team across all facets of the business. He oversees the firm’s venture capital transactions, asset portfolio and key relationships with Chinese institutional investors.
Steve has a background in commerce and holds a Master of Finance with First Class Honours from the University of Melbourne.
Prior to joining MAI Capital, Steve spent five years at ICD Property following his roles at ANZ and KPMG. During his tenure at ICD, Steve led the investments team across capital raising, property finance and execution of several major deals with the company’s largest capital partners.
Steve embraces the ongoing challenge of seeking value from differing client perspectives and understanding what motivates them, which he believes is where the real value is created, and win-win partnerships are established.
Raine ZHANG
Senior Investment Manager
Raine graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Master of Finance degree in 2011. Raine worked as an auditor at Deloitte before studying in Melbourne. After the completion of her master’s degree, she went back to China and dedicated herself to the real estate industry for almost eight years.
Raine is a CFA chart holder. She used to be a commercial valuer at Colliers International and an investment manager in the headquarters office of Sino Ocean Group.
Besides work, Raine actively participated in volunteer activities with the University of Melbourne. Food, coffee and the ocean are her top three favourite things, which are the reasons bring her moving back to Melbourne with her family in 2019.
Gabriel ZHANG
Investment Manager
Gabriel is a highly experienced investment professional with profound experience and in-depth knowledge of the financial and property market. Equipped with solid business acumen, he provides essential support across business lines in due diligence, financial analysis, deal structuring and market research.
Gabriel obtained a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Finance from the University of Melbourne with First Class Honours.
Before joining MAI Capital, Gabriel spent four years at ICD Property as a property and finance analyst. During his tenure at ICD, Gabriel played critical roles in deal sourcing, acquisition, research, and board reporting. He also served as a property analyst at Colliers International.
